Torifan’s Rating...

Torifan’s review: I usually like to use this space to promote good films, but in some cases, I will have to warn my readers to avoid certain films too. Wrong Turn looked a little bit promising based on the previews: Kids take a wrong turn in the West Virginia woods and run into some foul play. It looked a lot more exciting on the preview. I like horror/thriller type movies, so I was interested. I went with some friends of mine and their conversation during the movie was more exciting than the movie itself. I hate to say it, but there was not a scrap of originality in this movie. How many toothless hick cliches can we take? West Virginia is actually a pretty place, based on my experience there white-water rafting. But in this film, it is depicted as a home for inbreds who feed (literally) on young travellers. The teen actors were average, as far as talent goes, Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Eliza Dushku being the only standout. So one by one, the teens get picked off... you know the drill. For a horror movie, there wasn't even a decent scare. There was a lot of the usual-girl falls while running, boy almost makes it to the escape car, only to be shot from behind... disappointing. The only "wrong turn" you'd make is the turn into any theater playing this movie. Is it even a rental? Well, it's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but after seeing as many films as I have, I get easily bored with generic, unoriginal movies. All in all, not much of a scare factor.
