POST APOCALYPSE

The prize consists of videos of three films from the post-apocalyptic action genre:

Escape from New YorkEscape from New York

Reel Snapshot: Sci-fi action/thriller imagines Manhattan of the future as a prison. Stylish film has strong cult following due to its charismatic acting, campy dialogue, rich effects. Will thrill fans of genre.

New York City is a walled, maximum security prison. Breaking out is impossible. Breaking in is insane.

In this futuristic film directed by John Carpenter, New York City has become a maximum security prison. When Air Force One crash lands in Manhattan, the President (Donald Pleasance) is taken hostage by the uncivilized inmates that occupy the prison. Now all hope of rescuing the President is in the hands of Snake (Kurt Russell), the only inmate who has a chance to save the President.

Also stars Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Isaac Hayes and Adrienne Barbeau.

Blade RunnerBlade Runner

Reel Snapshot: Moody futuristic thriller about hard-boiled detective hunting near-human "replicants." With its stunning effects, rich characterizations, and brooding atmosphere, this is a cult classic with fans of noir, sci-fi, offbeat drama.

In this original cut of the futuristic adventure, this Director's Cut, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) prowls the steel-and-microchip jungle of 21st-century Los Angeles. He's a "blade runner" stalking genetically made criminal replicants. His assignemt: kill them. Their crime: wanting to be human.

The story of Blade Runner is familiar to countless fans. But few have seen it like this. Because this is director Ridley Scott's own vision of his sci-fi classic. This new version omits Deckard's voiceover narration, develops in slightly greater detail the romance between Deckard and Rachael (Sean Young) and removes the "uplifting" finale. The result is a heightened emotional impact: a great film made greater. Most intriguing of all is a newly included unicorn vision that suggests Deckard may be a humanoid. As Dick Philip asked, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (the book upon which this film is loosely based). Is Deckard a replicant? As with all things in the future, you must discover the answer for yourself.

Also stars Rutger Hauer, Edward James Olmos, Daryl Hannah and Joanna Cassidy.

Mad Max Beyond ThunderdomeMad Max Beyond Thunderdome

Reel Snapshot: Slick, post-apocalyptic action/adventure sequel features ex-cop Max left in the desert to die. Not as popular as its predecessor with series fans, but appealing to lovers of mainstream Hollywood adventures.

Two men enter. One man leaves. That's the law in Bartertown's Thunderdome arena. But lawmaker Aunty Entity (Tina Turner) will soon add another: Don't get Max mad!

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome stars double Academy Award winner Mel Gibson in his third go-round as the title hero who takes on the barbarians of the post-nuclear future -- and this time becomes the savior of a tribe of lost children. Music superstar Tina Turner steals what's left of the screen as Aunty, a power-mad dominatrix determined to use Max to tighten her strangle hold on Bartertown.

Director's George Miller and George Ogilvie deliver another rousing final apocalypse-on-wheels and one of the best movie fight scenes ever, as Max and the galdiatorial Blaster face off with maces, chainsaws and anything not nailed down inside Thunderdome.
